I just saw this ridiculously funny (despite all the homophobic slurs involved) video from Key and Peele. It's about a family meeting held in preparation for "cousin Delroy's" wedding. Delroy, as it turns out, is gay, and the entire clan had no idea what to expect from a "gay wedding."
So they asked for the expert advice of a gay man.
The session started well enough. Introductions were made to a family member's friend, no not really a friend but a "co-worker." A simple statement started off the conversation: basically a gay wedding is just like a straight wedding. As to be expected from a satirical comedy, it all went downhill from there.
Here are some of the questions asked:
- Do the men wear dresses and the women wear suits?
- None of us are gay, so i assume that all of us will sit at the straight section (as opposed to the gay section)? When do we get to sing "it's raining men, hallelujah it's raining men?" So there's no gay hymns in the ceremony?
- Do we have to participate in the anal sex? or can we just watch and cheer?
- Does the fake priest look like a real priest or like a nun? Or... Is it a sexy boat captain then he takes his clothes off?
- When they kiss, is it ok to stand up and say "ewww?" What about an involuntary gasp?
- Is RuPaul gonna be there? Neil Patrick Harris?
The questions, in themselves, are ridiculous and derogatory. I actually didn't know if I should be laughing or if I should feel offended. And then I remembered that the whole thing was meant as a skit, a joke. More importantly, it somehow shows people that asking those kinds of questions are not only offensive but will also make them look really stupid.
In the skit, the gay guy gets really frustrated and storms out the room. If it were me, I would probably stay and get more questions, tape the whole thing, and post the video on this site. So we can all get some laughs.
